Purposeful corruption of the word “Avatar-tastic.” Originally highly specific slang, even so much as to be called a “code” by some scholars. Used by those who felt that the movie Avatar was a throwback to the classic movies of their youth (typically Star Wars), but didn’t want to be identified as general fans of the science-fiction genre into their adulthood.
